More about me:

What is your major and anticipated graduation?

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology / Biotechnology, May 2027

How did you decide to attend MSU?

I applied because of their strong research programs and opportunities to be involved as an undergrad. They also gave good funding.

How did you select your major?

I selected my major because it was a preparatory track to an MD/PhD, and it aligned with my strengths in Biology and Chemistry.

Can you describe your research?

My research deals with figuring out why some people of African descent are more susceptible to an aggressive type of breast cancer (Triple-Negative breast cancer) and how to curb it. If there is something in their genes, we would try to target it.

What is the societal impact of your research?

The research would potentially help provide novel treatment and preventive strategies towards triple negative breast cancer. Hopefully, we can help solve the epidemic for families historically plagued with it.

How has your undergraduate experience been impacted by research experience?

I have had the opportunity to present my research at Honors College Annual Diversity Research Showcase and was awarded the third-place position. Working on this research has made me more empathetic towards people in that situation.

Of everything you have experienced at MSU, what has surprised you the most/what is something you never expected?

I never expected to be walking to class drenched in the snow.

Plans after graduation?

MD/PhD track.

How important is this scholarship to you personally and to your future career?

This scholarship would help me cover up some of my tuition and living expenses debt and would reduce the amount of hours I have to work alongside schooling.
